Two active COVID cases at Near North District schools

Two cases at Parry Sound Public School have been resolved

The Near North District School Board says a positive COVID-19 case, involving a member of the West Ferris Intermediate and Secondary School community, has been reported.

"As per standard protocol, the health unit has dismissed the affected cohort. At this time, the school will remain open to in-person learning," says its website. "The dismissed cohort will begin asynchronous learning Tuesday, Oct. 5."

Vaccinated and asymptomatic students will learn more about a return to in-person learning today (Wednesday, Oct. 6.)

The website says students are required to self-isolate but all students and staff who are not directly contacted by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit have been determined to have had a low risk exposure to the case of COVID-19.

Self-isolation and testing are not required for low-risk exposures.

"An enhanced cleaning of the entire school will take place by custodial staff, ensuring all staff and student areas are thoroughly disinfected.

Meanwhile, a COVID case reported Sept. 26 remains active at Mapleridge Public School in Powassan. The health unit has dismissed the two affected cohorts and those on bus route #368. At this time, the school remains open to in-person learning.
