Twelfth COVID death recorded in district

The Sudbury area COVID-related death count is now 77
covid-19

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit is reporting the twelfth death locally due to COVID.

That's an increase of one, but the third in the past 11 days. Two people are presently hospitalized.

There are 205 active cases. and the positivity rate is 14.2 per cent. That's down from 18 per cent a couple of weeks ago.

The rate is the percentage of all coronavirus tests performed in the district that are actually positive.

A higher per cent positive suggests higher transmission and that there are likely more people with coronavirus in the community who haven’t been tested yet. It's a critical measure because it gives an indication of how widespread infection is in the area.

Meanwhile, 14 people have died over the weekend in the Sudbury District as the result of COVID-19.

This brings the Sudbury area COVID-related death count to 77 who have died since the pandemic began in March of 2020. The death count since the New Year is 29.
