The Toronto Young Nationals opend up a 2-0 first period lead and added a power play marker midway through the third as they defeated the North Bay Major Midget AAA Trappers 4-0 in the final of the Central Regional Major Midget AAA tournament that wrapped up this afternoon in Clarington.

The Trappers never lost in tournament play going with three wins and two ties in round robin play. They then defeated the host Clarington Toroos 4-1 on Saturday afternoon to get to Sunday's final.

However, the Trappers, who tied the Toronto Young Nationals 1-1 on the first day of competition, had lost twice this season in tournament action to the GTHL champions.

Battalion prospect Reece Proulx made 27 saves in the loss.

Russell Cocca scored the eventual game winner only 4:02 into the opening frame to give the Nats the 1-0 lead.  Nats Peter Stojcevski scored late in the first to take a 2-0 lead after on period of play.

The scored stayed that way until the third period when Elias Cohen notched a power play marker at 10:02.   Joshua Sinanan finished up the scoring with an empty net tally in the final minute.

The Young Nationals will head to the Telus Cup which takes place in Thunder Bay starting April 22nd.

The Trappers loss marks the end of an amazing season for the Trappers who captured gold in three major midget tournaments this season, went unbeaten in the Great North Midget League regular season and playoffs.

Incredibly, Sunday's loss was their first since way back on November 4th, 2018.
