Traffic on Algonquin Ave in North Bay has been affected by a vehicle fire that occurred earlier today, snarling traffic on Highway 11N and surrounding streets.

Just before 2:30 this morning, North Bay OPP, Fire Department and Paramedic Services were called to the scene of a transport fire.

There are no injuries reported to the vehicle driver, but there are reports the truck was carrying hazardous materials and a water truck was visible throughout the afternoon cleaning.

OPP is still providing traffic control pending the removal and clean-up of the scene. (4:20 p,m,)

Detours have been set up. The affected area includes Algonquin Avenue between McKeown Avenue and the Highway 11/17 bypass.

The OPP is requesting that the public keep this in mind when travelling in the area, and allow extra time to arrive at your destination or avoid the area if it is not required.

The OPP is expecting to remain at the scene for several more hours.
