Transport driver charged in latest highway crash

The tractor-trailer had been travelling southbound on Highway 624, struck the shoulder, and lost control

The second transport accident on the same highway in less than  a week has resulted in charges against the driver.

Shortly before 3 p.m., yesterday OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 624, Marter Township, East of Englehart.

Investigation showed that a tractor trailer had been travelling southbound on Highway 624, struck the shoulder, and lost control, resulting in the commercial motor vehicle striking a utility pole. 

The highway had to be closed in both directions as a result of live hydro lines and phone lines that were on the roadway. 

The driver of the vehicle, Prabhmeet Singh June, 29, of Brampton, sustained non-life threatening injuries.

He is charged with:

  • Change lane not in safety, and
  • Careless driving,

The vehicle was towed from the scene and the highway was re-opened at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Singh June was released by way of Summons. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 11 in Haileybury.

Temiskaming Detachment of the OPP, the Englehart Emergency Medical Service and the Englehart Fire Department responded to the scene.

Hydro One and Northern Telephone cleaned up the downed wires.
