Now that the area trails are open, snowmobiles are everywhere.

"Snowmobile safety is an important component of the OPP's Provincial Traffic Safety Program and we want to ensure that snowmobiling remains a safe recreational activity in Ontario," says Constable Melissa Thomas.

Officers from the Almaguin Highlands OPP Detachment will be patrolling the local snowmobile trails along with roadways to ensure snowmobilers are following the rules of the Highway Traffic Act and Motorized Snow Vehicles Act of Ontario. Officers will focus their patrol on snowmobilers driving illegally on sidewalks in the surrounding communities along with other offences.

The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) provides a scenic trail system throughout Ontario. For more information about the OFSC and their trails, visit their website at: http://www.ofsc.on.ca/
