Traffic stop leads to drug and firearms related arrests

On Sunday, October 10, 2021, the North Bay Police Service arrested and charged one adult and two Young Offenders for firearms and drug trafficking offences.

In accordance with Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act, the North Bay Police Service cannot release the name or identifying information of the accused Young Offenders.

On Sunday, October 10, the North Bay Police Service received information from the Toronto Police Service about an alleged attempt to extort money from a victim.

Acting on that, members of the North Bay Police Service’s Street Crime Unit conducted an investigation assisted by the North Bay Police Service’s Community Response Unit and patrol officers.  

Police say the investigation resulted in a traffic stop of a vehicle along Highway 11 at Watson Road at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 10. The three accused were located inside the vehicle, arrested, and charged.

The accused in this incident are:

Walid Abdulhamid Ali, male, age 26, of Toronto, who is charged with:

  • One count of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • One count of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs 
  • One count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • One count of Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
  • One count of Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition
  • One count of Tampering with serial number of a Firearm
  • One count of Carrying concealed weapon
  • One count of Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • One count of Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

A Young Offender who is charged with:

  • One count of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • One count of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs 
  • One count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • One count of Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
  • One count of Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition
  • One count of Tampering with serial number of a Firearm
  • One count of Carrying concealed weapon
  • One count of Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • One count of Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

A Young Offender who is charged with:

  • A One count of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • One count of Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Other Drugs 
  • One count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • One count of Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
  • One count of Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm/ammunition
  • One count of Tampering with serial number of a Firearm
  • One count of Carrying concealed weapon
  • One count of Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition
  • One count of Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The incident and a search by police resulted in the seizure of:

  • Approximately 46 grams of suspected cocaine
  • Approximately three (3) suspected Percocet pills
  • Approximately $1,210 in Canadian currency
  • A handgun and ammunition
  • A Nissan car as Offence-related Property

Police say the illicit drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $5,600.

The accused are currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
