Time melting away for art on ice

The 2005 model ice fishing huts are now on display at the waterfront until March 20. Hard-water fishers should check out these new models in the next few days.
The 2005 model ice fishing huts are now on display at the waterfront until March 20. Hard-water fishers should check out these new models in the next few days. The attached photo file is a preview, but to be truly appreciated, an up-close visit is required.

The Reflector: a unique triangular model that deflects the winter wind while giving photographers lots of interesting angles of reflected light when the fish are quiet.

The Den: This traditional unit is completely remade inside as a comfortable fisher’s den, complete with wall mounted fish (looked like Gray Snappers), a map of the Lake, heater, and what appeared to be trophies of past fishing championships. The Den model has a selection of audio files to calm the fisher on days when the fish are not hitting.

Scottie: This fish hut has plenty of head room, and could accommodate bunk beds along two walls. In keeping with the well-insulated theme, bottles of Scottish anti freeze can be stored in the under-floor cooler.

The Pod: Reminiscent of a Buckminster Fuller geodome, this comfortable hut has plenty of room for a card table or could be used as a central meeting place for those purists who fish without shelter. The flying flags atop the fishing poles come with wind chimes that add a pleasing touch.

Bubbles: These variable size units are designed with the fishing family in mind. They can be grouped to saturate a favourite fishing hole, increasing the chance to catch the elusive walleye. Each bubble hut comes with a dream catcher as a good luck talisman.

Sedena: This all-metal hut looks like it came from outer space and landed on Lake Nipissing with a message of PAX. The construction is solid with built-in seating, heater and storage cupboards. Discreetly placed eye holes allow the fisher to watch adjoining huts. If the fish are near a neighbouring hut, the push of a button will allow the Sedena to lift off and move over the fish using a through-the-ice fish finder.
