Dave Innes' personal best was not good enough as the North Bay 2020 paralympic hopeful finished third in the PR1 Men's Singles Sculls on the weekend during competition at the 2019 RCA National Rowing Championships in Burnaby, BC.

"I finished third but with a personal best by almost a minute," Innes stated on Facebook.

"I rowed a 12:21 injured so I can’t complain about this at all. I got some great advice on boat adjustments so I can get all my power to the water."

Loren Pearson of BC finished first, while Jesse Heubner from Ontario placed second.

The North Bay para-athlete came home with a pair of gold medals from the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines back in mid-August.

The National event in BC was only the second competition for Innes in his new boat.

Despite the third-place finish, the former Invictus Games medallist is hoping to make Canada’s Paralympic rowing team for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo.

"I am still a contender for Tokyo so lots of training still ahead of me," he said.

"Thanks everyone for all the continued support, it means the world to me."
