Organisers of the first Capitol Centre Dance-a-thon say the event was a huge a success.

The numbers of participants might have been small but they were mighty as the teens danced the night away helping to raise funds for the Connor Dolliver Fund and the theatre’s elevator fund.

Full details are contained below.

What a success!! We are excited to announce that the First Annual Capitol Centre Dance-a-Thon was a huge success. We had less than 20 teens participating and they raised enough money to ensure a donation to the Connor Dolliver Fund and put money towards our elevator.

The participants danced the night away and some even danced the wee hours of the morning away. The Dance-a-Thon was finally over at 8:47am on Sunday with two winners. That’s right two. Melanie Cloutier from Ecole Secondaire Algonquin and Carly Prior from Chippewa Secondary School were our two winners. They danced a total of fourteen hours and forty seven minutes. WOW!! They both began negotiating on stage at about 8am and finally came to an agreement to split the grand prize worth over $400 forty seven minutes later.

We raised just under $2000 at the Dance-a-Thon and with fewer than 20 participants that is INCREDIBLE. Everyone involved gave it their all and they deserve a big pat on the back. Good job dancers. We couldn’t have done it without their energy, their willingness to help a good cause and their ability to stay awake and moving for that long.

We would like to send out a special thank you to Leanne Davis from the FOX who helped kick off our event, Evan Guillemette from St-John’s Ambulance and Stephanie Larouche from Canadore College who helped MC the overnight shift. Thank You!!
