The Trojans are coming to collect your food. All for a good cause, as this year marks the 17th annual West Ferris Trojan Food Drive.
Expect to see them this Wednesday, October 2nd, as they’ll be hitting the streets of West Ferris to collect their non-perishable food items. They’ll be knocking at doors between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m.
“The surrounding community is so generous and really gets behind this endeavour,” noted Mark Robertson, a teacher at West Ferris who helps organize the event. “Many of the homes are aware the students are coming and have food ready to donate.”
Robertson noted that each year, the students bring in around 10,000 pounds of food, and they hope to reach that goal again. More than 100 students, along with some teachers, are taking part in this year’s Trojan Food Drive.

If you won’t be home, or don’t care to deal with people, feel free to leave your food donation at the door. Flyers were distributed throughout the neighbourhood as well, and organizers suggest leaving that flyer on your donation, so there will be no confusion.
All food is donated to the North Bay Food Bank, and last year, the school donated just over 13,000 pounds of food.
