Terry Fox would love this student effort!

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board has raised over $70,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, with some schools participating for 20 years.

Thursday was a special celebration for students and staff at St. Theresa Elementary School in Callander, who celebrated raising over $46,000 cumulatively for the Terry Fox Foundation, over the past decade.

“We are absolutely thrilled to reach this benchmark,” says Micheline Lamarche, Principal at St. Theresa. “Our students and staff have shown a commitment to this cause and I am proud of the leadership, generosity and excitement they’ve brought to this event.”

This year, students and staff raised over $6,000 for the cause through individual student fundraising. Students will be rewarded for their efforts with a movie day and the Annual Thanksgiving Celebration in early October.

Avery Byers will be receiving special recognition at the schools’ Thanksgiving Celebration, having raised $705 for the Terry Fox Foundation this year. As a reward, she will join Lamarche to act as Principal for the day.

Byers said it was because she wants to do her part to help find a cure for cancer.
