People looking to fly to a sunny destinations from North Bay or Sudbury with Sunwing will likely have to look for other options.

Sunwing flights from North Bay and Sudbury to locations in Mexico and Cuba were set to begin in January but now have been cancelled.

Chris Mayne, the owner of Mayne Travel in North Bay, says he is trying to get more details on the Sunwing situation.

"It looks like Sunwing is cancelling its flights from North Bay to Cancun and from Sudbury to Varadero for the winter," Mayne told BayToday.

"Certainly for the early part of the season, we are trying to confirm if it will be for the full season. Unfortunately, we are having difficulty getting details right now but hopefully, we will have more information soon."

Back in the summer, Sunwing announced it was returning to North Bay for January of 2022.

Earlier this fall, Sunwing officials told Travelweek they were excited to return to the north.

“We’re excited to be returning to Sudbury and North Bay this winter and offering northern Ontarians seamless vacation experiences under our wing,” Andrew Dawson, president of tour operations for Sunwing told Travelweek

“Our seasonal flight services from Sudbury and North Bay have been consistently well-received over the years. With convenient flights from their regional airports, travellers will be able to spend less time getting to their destination and more time soaking up the sun in paradise."

BayToday reached out to Sunwing but did not receive a reply prior to publication.
