Mattawa and Sturgeon Falls will split $140,000 to assist their local hospitals.

The North East LHIN is helping Mattawa Hospital with building infrastructure to provide more integrated care and improved coordination for residents living in the area. In Mattawa, Algonquin Nursing Home is redeveloping on the hospital’s property and will become adjacent to the hospital which will allow for a continuum of services between the two organizations says a news releae.

In addition, a residential hospice bed will be added to the site. Residential hospices provide medical, psycho-social, spiritual, bereavement, and other services to patients and their families in the final weeks of life.

West Nipissing Community Health Centre gets cash for the addition of a gymnasium adjacent to the centre to ensure it has the space it needs to continue offering a full complement of community support services and programs. It will help to sustain the health centre’s ability to meet the needs of clients and the community.

“We know that all Northerners want to be able to receive the quality care they need, close to home – and we are pleased to support our health service providers in helping to meet this goal,” said Kate Fyfe, Interim CEO, North East LHIN.
