The Rolling Stones famously wrote in their smash hit Street Fightin' Man, "Cause summer's here and the time is right for fighting in the street", and a pair of family members took it literally say OPP.

On April 8, at 7:11 p.m., OPP officers were called to a family dispute in Elliot Lake.

A man had called the police to report that he was assaulted and threatened with a baseball bat.

When police arrived on the scene, they found two men out in the street who were yelling obscenities at each other and about to exchange knuckle sandwiches.

Both refused to co-operate with officers so both were promptly cuffed and arrested.

As a result, Dwayne Newton, 48, of Elliot Lake, was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for being intoxicated in a public place.

He was held in police custody overnight and released the next morning.

Desi Newton, 38, of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Being intoxicated in a public place
  • Fail to comply with Recognizance

Desi Newton is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake, Ontario on May 2.

Back to the Stones, it was such a great song it deserves a replay here.
