UPDATE: Stay off the ice, police warn

Despite numerous warnings of deteriorating ice conditions from police, and a large amount of slush on the lake, reports continue to come in about snowmobiles and vehicles getting stuck.

Update:

The SUV owner didn't learn his lesson.

As Jason MacWilliams reports to BayToday, ""I winched this guy off the lake this morning. While I was setting everything up to pull him off he drove his other vehicle on the ice as well and got it stuck so this owner had both his vehicles stuck."

Some heavy rain last week and warming temperatures have made lake travel treacherous.

Last week a trio of snowmobilers was located approximately 10 kilometers from shore.

Emergency Medical Services also responded and found the men were not injured but they were very wet and cold. The OPP is recommending that snowmobilers stay off the lakes. With all the rain recently the lakes are very slushy making it difficult to travel.

NAPA has some excellent tips if you get stuck including rocking your car.

"This is a maneuver where use the engine to roll the vehicle forward, put it in reverse, roll it backward, and then shift to drive and roll forward. Doing this several times builds momentum for the vehicle, often getting it out of the rut it is stuck in. Once you are over the hump and rolling in one direction, power out of the mess until you are on solid ground or ice."

Of course, if you fall through the ice...you're sunk.
