BayToday.ca has learned that Stantec, a Mining consulting firm based on McIntyre street, has laid off eight people from its North Bay office.

“As a result of the continued slump in the mining industry and delays in major project awards we have, unfortunately, had to implement staff reductions in our mining business line,” stated Managing Principal Andy Pitz in an email to BayToday.ca

“This includes 8 layoffs in our North Bay office. In 2016, we have laid off a total of 13 employees in North Bay.”

The Stantec office is involved with local and global projects that they say impact communities on a day-to-day basis.

“Our commitment to the community of North Bay, our team, and our clients remains strong,” added Pitz.

“We’re proud of the expertise and experience we’ve built in the North Bay community, and we want to maintain that.”
