On Saturday February 22nd the lives of two families and countless others were changed after a driver lost control of their vehicle on McIntrye Street striking and injuring a female pedestrian and three Seguin children from West Nipissing.
As soon as Charlie Lang heard the news he didn’t stop to think twice he rolled up his sleeves and went to work on organizing a fundraiser for the Seguin family, a family he doesn’t know.
Lang, who works for Metro, called on his numerous food industry connections, the North Bay and West Nipissing communities, friends and family to help make the fundraiser a success.
And by success Lang says $15,000 or better would be the right amount and would go a long way to help the maple sugar farming family with the expenses of traveling back and forth to Ottawa.
St Joseph-Scollard Hall Educational Assistant Michelle Butkevich was the pedestrian and word of her accident sent shockwaves through the school.
Wanting to help where they could students at St Joseph-Scollard Hall did what they do best they rallied and started fundraising.
Student Trustee Nicholas Waltenbury, who presented Lang with a $900 cheque Friday, says the grade ten history class organized a bake sale, while others circled the cafeteria with a change bucket during the lunch period while the hospitality class baked pies to sell during a recent professional development day at the school.
The benefit goes tonight (Saturday) in Sturgeon Falls from 8 pm till 1:30am at the Sturgeon Falls Sports Complex.
