St. Alphonsus Catholic church celebrates 125 years!

The building was destroyed in 1913 by a fierce windstorm and rebuilt later that same year, where it remains at its original location

Yup, they've hit the big 1-2-5 and celebrations include an open house planned for the church in Callander that opened in 1893.

For 125 years, St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church has served the Catholic population in Callander and beyond.

The church, located at 163 High Street in Callander, was consecrated on December 10, 1893.  The building was destroyed in 1913 by a fierce windstorm and rebuilt later that same year, where it remains at its original location.

Celebrations are underway to mark this historical chapter of the church community, including the open house on October 14, a service at Callander Union Cemetery on November 3 to remember past parishioners, and a 125th Anniversary Mass celebrated by Bishop Marcel Damphousse on December 9.

The public is welcome to tour the church and explore historical exhibits on Sunday, October 14 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

All are welcome, and light refreshments will be served.
