Snow at times heavy expected, beginning this evening in Northwestern Ontario and spreading toward Northeastern Ontario by Thursday morning.
A developing weather system will track towards Ontario on Thursday. Snow associated with this system will spread into the southern parts of Northwestern Ontario this evening, then spread eastward through the night into the southern parts of Northeastern Ontario.
Snowfall warnings have been issued from Thunder Bay to Marathon and Wawa where snow will be heavy at times early Thursday morning and storm totals of 15 to 20 cm are likely by Thursday night.
At this time it appears that Atikokan - Upsala - Quetico could receive between 10 and 15 cm of snowfall in total tonight and Thursday morning.
Over Northeastern Ontario, the snowfall is expected to begin around or after midnight and persist through the day on Thursday and possibly into Friday. Snowfall amounts are uncertain at this time, but may exceed 15 cm and snowfall warnings may be issued. There may also be a transition to rain over southern sections, from about Sault Ste Marie through North Bay and southward on Thursday night, with a risk of freezing rain possible during the transition.
Additional snowfall warnings may be issued as the event draws nearer and confidence increases, most likely for regions in Northeastern Ontario.
