Soup Kitchen Numbers Up In March

The Gathering Place, North Bay’s Community Soup Kitchen released their statistics for March and the numbers are up substantially from February.

The kitchen served an average of 89 Neighbours-in-need per day in March, which brings the total number of meals served since the opening of kitchen in September of 2003 to 50,133.

The total of meals served for March was 2,039, a substantial increase from February when 1,484 (or a daily average of 74) meals were served to Neighbours-in-need.

The demographic break down for the number of meals served at The Gathering Place during March:

- 1,379 were served to adults (aged 25-60)

- 386 were served to seniors

- 218 were served to young adults between the ages of 16 and 25 years of age.

- 20 pre-schoolers

- 36 youngsters under the age of 16

The Gathering Place is Located at 392 Algonquin Avenue and serves a hot, nutritious lunch from Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
