Team Canada's Jennifer Jones rink started out with a bang at the 2018 Ford World Women's Curling Championships which began at Memorial Gardens this morning.

Team Canada scored four in the first end, stole two in the second and four more in the fourth end en route to a convincing 11-5 win over the Czech Republic.

Skip Jennifer Jones was overwhelmed by the Memorial Gardens crowd on opening day.

“It’s a great way to start," she said.

"We had so much fun out there, the crowd was amazing, we made some good shots.”

On the other hand, the young Czech Skip Anna Kubešková felt the North Bay crowd was intimidating.

“It was a tough start with all the crowd cheering against us,” said Kubešková.

“It’s always tough to start against the home team. It’s a nervous start and against such a great team it’s even more difficult for us. After such an end we’re down and means we’re probably going to lose, so we wanted to get as much out of the game to help us in following games.”

The competition was stiffer on Saturday night, but Team Canada still finished strong scoring three in the 10th en route to a 10-5 win over former world champion Binia Feltscher of Team Switzerland.

That leaves Canada at a perfect 2-0 record after day one.

Canada is back in action Sunday night at 7 p.m. when it faces Team Germany.
