Despite Earthquakes Canada's report, many on social media are saying that there were three rumbles between 9 p.m and 9:30 p.m. last night with the first being the most intense.

According to GSPS reports that were received from Earthquakes Canada, two seismic events occurred about 90 km west of North Bay and 50 km east of Sudbury.

The tremor originated northeast of Markstay, northwest of Warren at the coordinates 46.53 North latitude and 80.39 West longitude.

The epicentre of the two events occurred 47 km east of Sudbury with the first occurring at 9:06 p.m. and registering 2.8 on the Richter Scale. The second was at 9:14 p.m. and registered 1.9.

“There are no public safety issues at this time,” said Sgt. Dubreuil, GSPS. “It's mostly reports of loud bursts and some ground and house shaking.”

Following the events, NorthernLife.ca received numerous messages on Facebook regarding the seismic activity, which was felt all over the city.

Savannah: "Felt 3 shakes here in New Sudbury, near Lasalle and Falconbridge. First one was huge, second two were not as big but still noticeable."

Mario: "I heard the big boom and rumbling sound in Coniston, my whole house shook and felt like it came off the ground."

Shelley: "We felt a horrible shaking in the Minnow Lake area around 9:15pm. It lasted about three seconds, we felt a second shock or blast about two minutes after the first.

Mike: "My family was discussing this as a potential rock burst (in other words, a violent rock fracture that forms around mines). If it was, I would expect the mining companies to provide information soon."

Despite the reports of two distinct events, social media reports are making mention of three different tremors within a 15 minute span, starting around 9 p.m.
