Snow Wars a little different in 2021

A high flying competition that has been around for 26 years was in jeopardy of being cancelled due to COVID-19.

However, Barry Klus, event organizer and owner of Cheapskates in downtown North Bay, put on his thinking cap this fall to figure out a way to keep the event moving forward for the 27th straight year.

"It is one of the silver linings we are trying to create," said Klus.

"Snow Wars has been around for 26 years and the last thing I wanted to do was not have it. So we came up with the idea of doing it virtually and allowing people to do their own thing."

Klus admits his idea makes it very different, but it will keep the event going for another year.

The new event can be performed anywhere and registration which can be picked up at Cheap Skates, is free.

"Choose a venue, be creative," said Klus.

"Do it in your backyard, anywhere you want to do something. You know, perform a trick, get it on video and put on the Snow Wars Facebook page."

Klus says they will have prizes in multiple categories. Participants can do their tricks on snowboards, skis or even snow skis this year and different age categories from 10 and under, 11 to 15, and 16 and over.

All the videos need to show a date completed. All participants will receive a Snow Wars 27 facemask.

Judging will be done in the first week of March and winners will be notified via email.
