Yup, it's cold in the North Bay area, but our neighbours to the east will really feel it tonight.

An extreme cold warning has been issued for Témiscaming, Que.

The coldest wind chills values there will reach between minus 38 and minus 46.

In North Bay expect a low of minus 21 with a wind chill of minus 27.

This is good advice for us all. Always wear clothing appropriate for the weather. Synthetic and wool fabrics provide better insulation.

Some synthetic fabrics are designed to keep perspiration away from your body which keep you dry and further reduce your risk.

Dress in layers with a wind resistant outer layer. You can remove layers if you get too warm, before you start sweating, or add a layer if you get cold.

Wear warm socks, gloves, a hat and scarf in cold weather. Be sure to cover your nose to protect it.

If you get wet, change into dry clothing as soon as possible. You lose heat faster when you're wet.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Meanwhile if you plan to drive south this evening, be aware that there is a snow squall watch issued for the Huntsville - Baysville area so travelling down Highway 11 could be risky.

Lake effect flurries and local snow squalls are expected to develop late this evening.

Under the snow squall bands, visibility may be significantly reduced due to heavy snow. Local snowfall amounts of 10 cm per 12 hours will be possible.

Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
