The committee which has taken on the runnning of North Bay's ski hill now can't wait for the arrival of some white, fluffy stuff. Further details are included in the following news release issued by the Save our Ski Hill Committee:

NORTH BAY – A group of hardworking volunteers are keeping their eyes glued to the skies. They are waiting anxiously for the last of the leaves to fall and for the temperature to drop a little bit further.

They are waiting for snow.

Since September the Save Our Ski Hill Committee has been working diligently to ensure that North Bay’s Ski Hill will be open and accessible to the public this winter. When it was announced that Jack Pine Hill would not be reopening for financial reasons, a small group of North Bay business people and volunteers decided to see what they could do to reopen the ski hill for a new season.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, during an early promotional event held in conjunction with Cheapskates, 125 season’s passes were sold. Save Our Ski Hill Chair Al McDonald saw this as a tremendous show of support for the hill and our community.

“We really need the community’s help if we are going to save our ski hill,” McDonald said.

On Saturday, October 30, 2004, a second promotional event will be held at the Upper Lodge of the Laurentian Ski Hill. Several dignitaries will be on-hand including Steve Omischl an Olympian who grew up in North Bay.

During the special event, season’s passes will be available for 15% off and local businesses Cheapskates, Legit Trix and Momentum will be on-hand offering additional savings.

North Bay is the only community in North America with a ski hill located in the centre of town. It is a focal point of our community and a source of civic pride and with 80% of the hill’s users being young people, our ski hill is an excellent way to stay fit and healthy throughout the long winters.

“Family values and physical activity are the cornerstones of North Bay and the ski hill prides itself on being a safe, friendly and fun environment where the whole family can stay fit and active all winter long,” Laurentian Ski Hill General Manager Doug Newell explained.
