Six new COVID cases Thursday

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit reports six new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total to 507 since the pandemic began.

There are 45 active cases, all in the Nipissing District.

The Health Unit also says 72 per cent of adults have received one dose of vaccine, while 16 per cent are fully vaccinated.

It also said grab the vaccine that's available for your second shot.

The Health Unit will be holding a vaccination for inmates at the North Bay Jail on Friday to try and stem an outbreak there.

The Timiskaming Health Unit reports one active case.

The Sudbury Health Unit reports two new cases and 19 active cases.

The Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit reports 12 new cases and 135 active cases.

The province has declared Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit one of three new COVID-19 delta variant hotspots in Ontario, which will increase the region’s vaccination allotment.

Minister of Health and Deputy Premier Christine Elliott, along with Solicitor General Sylvia Jones, announced today that Ontario is accelerating the vaccine rollout by expanding eligibility for second doses, ahead of schedule.

And, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization says it is now recommending people who got the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine first should get Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna for their second shot.
