Six modern day Voyageurs recently crossed the historic La Vase Portages in North Bay as part of their four month long canoe trip this summer.

The Paddle Across Canada Tour group, or PACT, set out from Columbia House on the B.C. Alberta border May 14 and plan to arrive at the old Fur Trading Post in Lachine, Quebec by September 18.

Having spent the last three weeks crossing Lake Superior and Georgian Bay and Lake Nipissing, the narrow channels and marshy portages of La Vase marked a real change in geography for them.

Also having completed the 20 kilometer Grande Portage to reach Lake Superior the several shorter portages that comprise La Vase were a "piece of cake".

From a variety of backgrounds they all share a love of Canada's outdoors and canoeing worked together to take part in what really is an adventure of a lifetime for each of them.
