SIU called in to investigate death while in custody

Elliot Lake – On April 8, 2009 Elliot Lake OPP along with the Drug Enforcement Unit (DES) of the OPP executed a warrant on a residence in Elliot Lake.

A 41 year old was taken into custody and transported to the Elliot Lake Detachment. While in custody the male experienced medical issues. He was treated by OPP officers and ambulance personnel before being transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked its mandate.
