Sink hole closes Queen Street

A failed culvert appears to be the cause

The City of North Bay reports that a sink hole appeared Friday afternoon in the centre of Queen Street on the bridge that crosses Chippewa Creek.

Public Works has closed the street from Memorial to James Street as a result.

The sinkhole is about 14 in, in diameter.

It's only a few feet from a similar sinkhole that closed the street for four weeks last year.

At this point the city believes the problem may be with a failed culvert and will update with more details are available.
