Investigation Complete - Sexual Assault Allegations Unsubstantiated

Mattawa OPP has concluded its investigation into allegations of sexual assault that were made against three males from the Mattawa area this past January.

The investigation determined the allegations to be unsubstantiated and the complainant, a youong person, who cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was subsequently investigated for public mischief.

The young person was dealt with by way of the YCGA - extrajudicial measures, which are particularly appropriate for responding to less serious youth crime in a timely and effective manner. They include:
* measures based on police discretion, such as warnings, cautions and referrals to community programs;
* cautions by crown attorneys; and
* extrajudicial sanctions, which are more formal extrajudicial measures, previously known as alternative measures under the Young Offenders Act (YOA). *
