Ontario Provincial Police say three people have been seriously injured in a single motor vehicle accident on Hwy 11 North, one-half kilometre south of Watson Rd, south of North Bay.

The accident took place around 2 p.m. today, bringing the Ontario Provincial Police, the Callander Volunteer Fire Department and ambulance crews to the scene.

The highway in the area has been temporarily closed off and northbound traffic had been rerouted through Hillsiding Rd to River Street and back to Hwy 11.

But the unpaved road began deteriorating and the traffic was then rerouted through Hwy 534/654.

Emergency personel are now awaiting an air ambulance at the scene.

Police said the occupants of the vehicle were trapped for almost an hour and firefighters had to cut the roof off the Jimmy to free them.

OPP received a report that a mini van was in the ditch and possibly hit the rock cut.

The vehicle turned out to be a GMC Jimmy.

Police expect Hwy 11 northbound to reopen at around 7:30 p.m.

Their investigation continues.
