The city of North Bay will be installing new security cameras on all 21 of their city transit buses this week.

Remi Renaud, the city transit manager says every bus will have several cameras, both inside and out.

"Four or five on board the bus, inside the bus, one will be directed outside the windshield so they will be able to see the front area,” explained Renaud to Rogers Radio.

“There will be cameras pointing at various locations in the bus and we'll also have cameras on the outside of each side of the bus as well.”

Renaud expects all the cameras should be fully operational on all the buses by February.

“There will be full installation in all 21 of our buses so that will play a significant role in regards to the security of our passengers, security of our drivers so that should start this week,” said Renaud.

Council approved a contract for just over $200,000 for the project back in September of 2018.
