A city transit bus rolled backward across Shirreff Avenue this morning smashing into five cars.

Witnesses said there was no driver in the bus as it rolled back. The bus had broken down and was in the Finn McCool's parking lot being prepared for towing when it began to roll.

No one was injured and three of the cars smashed into were parked.

Dorothy Burden's car was hit by the bus's open doors as she was turning right out of the parking lot behind the Guardian Drugs building.

She saysone of the rear lights on her car was damaged and the side of the vehicle was scrapped too.

Transit supervisor Dorothy Carvell was on the scene and said she wasn't sure what caused the bus to roll.

The North Bay Police Service is investigating.
