The Rotary Club of North Bay launched its annual radiothon in partnership with the Nipissing Association for Disabled Youth (NADY) at One Kids Place in North Bay this morning.

This will be the 15th year for the radiothon which will air on 100.5 KISS FM beginning on Thursday, March 30th at 5:30 a.m.

Host Kevin Oschefski will be on the air for 29 hours starting at the tower court location at the Northgate Shopping Centre on Thursday and then wrap up the final day Friday morning with a breakfast show from Burgerworld on Hammond Street on March 31st from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“If it can help someone have a better life for working 29 hours, who am I to say no,” stated Oschefski who will be hosting the event for the sixth time.

Summer Morison was also on hand for the event. the 10-year-old student from St. Hubert Catholic Elementary School is this year’s Rotary4Kids Ambassador.

Oschefski says in the past the fundraiser has hit the $100,000 mark.

Jim Stewart, who is the President of NADY, believes the event is a key fundraiser.

“No matter how you do it, when you do it, it can well up tears, tears of joy. I mean everything we do, everything these kids do, it wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our community and when they all pull together and they help us through this campaign it really shows,” said Stewart.

Oschefski believes the event is about helping make kids feel like kids.

“The best thing I ever hear about this - especially when it comes down to the NADY program - is they come in and they are not the child in the leg braces, they aren’t the kid in the wheel chair, they are not the child who has autism, they are just a kid and that stuff is a non-factor and they can just be a kid,” he said.

Oschefski urges people to come by and say hello at the two locations next week.

Donations can be made online now at www.rotarykids.ca, www.longestmorning.ca, or during the broadcast by calling (705) 499-3109 or in person at the shopping centre or even by mail.
