Rota wants volunteers for Youth Council

On the one hand, the Member of Parliament will learn more about the views of youth from his region through discussions. On the other hand, young people can network with the other participants, and better understand the Canadian political process as they take part in it.

Anthony Rota, MP Nipissing – Timiskaming, invites all youth from the ages of 14 to 18 (for the high school council) and from the ages of 17 to 25 (for the post-secondary council) to apply to his new Nipissing – Timiskaming Constituency Youth Council (CYC).

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has said that “young voices must be part of our decision-making process”;

Rota wants 10 to 20 young people from his riding, in order to engage them, and listen to them on the issues that matter to youth in our country, says a news release from the MP. "It is important that young Canadians have their say and can share their views and ideas with the government."

The Nipissing – Timiskaming CYC will accept applications until Wednesday, October 5. The CYC will include youth from different schools, neighbourhoods, and local associations. Once selected, the Council will meet several times throughout the year to discuss a number of issues that could include climate change, access to employment, LGBTQ issues, peacekeeping, and other topics that matter most to the community.

To apply: Applicants must complete and submit the form, which is available at their MP’s constituency office, Facebook page, or official website. Applicants can find out who their MP is by checking with their school guidance counsellor. Applications are due by midnight on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.
