Update: Windsurfer rescued, (Rescue alarm at city beach)

Firefighters responded to a rescue alarm this afternoon at Silver Beach in the West Ferris area of the city

A 911 call was made by a concerned citizen who saw a windsurfer drifting about 500 metres off the beach. Police and fire responded and reached the man in the lake who told them he was not in danger.

The rescue team brought the man to shore, though he was arguing he was ok and should have been left alone.

Fire and police responded today to a rescue alarm at 3:20 p.m. at Silver Beach, 491 Lakeshore Dr.

Both are presently still on-scene (4 p.m.) and firefighters are in a dinghy searching just offshore the beach.

Latest report has a windsurfer being pulled safely from the water.
