A bad week for drinking drivers!

OPP say they caught six in just five days. These charges mark 52 drivers charged in the North Bay Detachment area in 2019. In 2018, North Bay OPP charged 49 drivers.   

Today, (Monday) at 11:45 a.m., OPP got a traffic complaint in Powassan.   

An odour of alcohol was detected on the driver and the officer began an investigation into the impairment of the driver.  

Rudi Alexander Morin, 49, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus. 

Morin was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on October 29. 

Yesterday, (Sunday) at 7:42 p.m., OPP received a call to assist Anishinabek Police Service with an intoxicated person in Nipissing First Nation.  

When officers arrived they saw the suspect driving. An odour of alcohol was detected on the driver and the officer began an investigation.

Frederick John McLeod, 53, of Nipissing First Nation, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Drive a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.

McLeod was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on December 17.   

Earlier that same day at 3:45 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE spot check on Birchgrove Drive in the Township of Nipissing.    

A utility terrain vehicle stopped and an odour of alcohol was detected on the driver. 

Michael Kleimaker, 66, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol, drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Operation while prohibited - fail to have an ignition interlock.   

Kleomaker was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay. 

On October 18 at 3:35 p.m., OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 17 in North Bay.   

Officers located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. An odour of alcohol was detected on the driver.

Thomas Gordon Love, 40, of Petrolia, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus.   

Love was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay on November 12. 

Earlier that day at 1:54 p.m., OPP responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Highway 17 in Papineau-Cameron Township near Mattawa. 

An odour of alcohol was detected on the driver.  

Julie Anne Lewis, 46, of Papineau-Cameron Township, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Careless driving.   

Lewis was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court in Mattawa on November 13.
