A North Bay woman says she has been overwhelmed with the response she has been getting after telling her story to BayToday.ca back on June 14th.
See that story here: Hope for local resident with rare liver disease
Dawn Champagne suffers from a disease called primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a rare autoimmune liver disease that affects an estimated 11,000 Canadians.
Champagne figured she may be the only person in North Bay and possibly Northern Ontario with this rare liver condition.
“I'm just letting you know that this morning I've had someone else contact me in regards to the article,” noting Champagne in an email to BayToday.ca.
Champagne says she has now found out from a lady from Gore Bay with the condition that her yearly Fibroscan can be down in Sudbury and not just in Toronto.
Another woman who was recently diagnosed reached out to Champagne.
“This lady was just newly diagnosed in February and is struggling with the news of it all.”
“She hadn't heard of the new medication either. At the end of her note, I sensed a heartfelt appreciation ‘I just wanted to reach out and thank you for opening up your life and sharing your journey.’ How thoughtful for someone to take the time to do that for a complete stranger.
“That wonderful article continues to keep connecting people.”
