Random Oak St. verbal assault turns physical

Random downtown attack leaves the victim with minor physical injuries say police

City police have arrested and charged a man with assault after an incident downtown Thursday morning.

At 8:15 a.m. on November 18, North Bay police officers responded to reports of an assault outside a business on Oak Street.

Police say a woman was walking along Oak when a man began yelling, then approached and assaulted her. A witness yelled at the attacker, who then fled the area.

The woman suffered minor physical injuries.

The victim and man were not known to one another.

Police located and arrested the suspect inside the North Bay transit terminal on Oak. St.

Shane Ducharme, 44 of North Bay, is charged with assault and failure to comply with a probation order.

Ducharme is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
