Prostate cancer riders ready to get rolling

The parade of bikers has become a familiar sight for North Bay residents as they easily ride through city streets during the hot June morning.

Thirty eight supporters of the annual Motorcycle Ride for Dad piled into the Ramada Pinewood Park Resort last night to acknowledge the impact made by the event’s volunteers.

“It’s the volunteers that keep the event going, they do a lot of the heavy lifting and this is a night to recognize those efforts.” Co-Chair John Strang said.

Riders, volunteers, and pledge earners alike shared a spaghetti dinner that started the launch of the tenth annual prostate cancer fundraiser.

The parade of bikers has become a familiar sight for North Bay residents as they ride through the city.

Terry Daigle is a previous Co-Chair of the Ride for Dad fundraiser. He played a crucial role in its introduction to North Bay 11 years ago. Since its local debut Daigle has been along for the ride, watching the event gain recognition and momentum throughout the passing years.

“The event has grown at a nice rate, about 20 per cent each year with over 350 people taking part in the ride yearly,” Daigle stated.

This year’s Ride for Dad Parade starts at the Ramada Pinewood Park Resort and is one of 40 that take place across Canada with funds raised locally staying within the community.

As the event has continued to spin its wheels and mount up the mileage, the Nipissing District has raised over $321,642.

This year the Ride for Dad is presenting $20,000 to Health Sciences North Research Institute, a North East Cancer Centre in support of continued prostate cancer research and public awareness.

The Motorcycle Ride for Dad thunders through North Bay on June 16. Those interested in registering a team or donating to Nipissing’s Ride can visit.
