Details are beginning to emerge for those wanting to pay their respects to the OPP officer killed Tuesday in a daylight shooting near Hagersville, south of Hamilton.
A procession to escort OPP Const. Grzegorz (Greg) Pierzchala, who was from Barrie, will take place this morning.
The 28-year-old OPP officer was killed on Dec. 27 while responding to a call west of Hagersville.
The procession will depart from the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto at 9 a.m. Friday and travel northbound on Highway 400 to Barrie.
Members of the public are invited to join first responders in showing their respects from one of the many overpasses along the highway.
Those attending are asked to not stop on the highway to exit their vehicle as it poses a serious safety concern.
A full police funeral will be held for Pierzchala, a former athlete of the year at Barrie's St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School, on Jan. 4 in Barrie. Details are to be announced once they have been finalized.
Police say Pierzchala responded to a call for a vehicle in a ditch just west of Hagersville, Ont. on Tuesday afternoon and was shot dead when he got there.
A 28-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman have been charged with first-degree murder in relation to the shooting.
Pierzchala had been with the force for just over a year. He had been notified that he had passed his 10-month probation period hours before his death. He was previously a special constable at Queen's Park and, as a boy, dreamed of being a police officer.
