North Bay’s well known night club called “The Zoo Niteclub” has officially closed its doors according to its website http://zooniteclub.com/. Old-timers may remember it as the Elba Lounge or Madam's.

“The Zoo Niteclub has retired,” the website stated.

The night club operates along with Cecil’s Eatery & Beer Society next door on Main Street.

John Lechlitner, owner of the Zoo and Cecil’s Eatery & Beer Society on Main Street, told BayToday.ca’s Jeff Turl back in early May that Cecil's will start making its own brew.  See the original story here: http://www.baytoday.ca/content/news/details.asp?c=77862

“We are very excited with the evolution of Cecil’s.” said Lechlitner in early May.

“Through the years we have undergone several changes but this new direction is by far our most exciting.”

On zooniteclub.com that message was reinforced.

“It is the end of an era in North Bay but the best of times are now in Cecil’s Brewhouse where we will be pouring our first four styles of beer soon,” the website stated.

Regular visitors to the establishment are sad to see it go.

“The zoo produced some of the most fun social memories I've had during my adult years,” said 24-year-old Adam Marceau.

“It was a place where you were sure to see familiar faces and have some good laughs with friends.”

Twenty-three-year-old Lindsay Sarazin enjoyed the Zoo atmosphere.

“I made a lot of friends there, a few of whom I've become good friends outside of the zoo. I also was known as the ‘dancing man,’ a title that kind of developed due to my love for rhythm.”

Reports indicate it will be renovated and re-open as an events centre this fall.
