Police service looks to its ranks for deputy chief

Mr. William Ferguson, Chair of the North Bay Police Services Board, is pleased to announce the appointment of Inspector Alan Williams as Deputy Chief of the North Bay Police Service.

Inspector Williams along with new chief, Paul Cook, will be sworn in at a change of command ceremony scheduled to take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23, on Friday, April 30th, 2004 at 11 a.m.

Inspector Williams is a long time resident of North Bay who has been a member of the North Bay Police Service since 1979.

Prior to this Inspector Williams was employed for five years with the Metropolitan Toronto Police Force. Inspector Williams has worked in a variety of police functions including patrol, criminal investigation, courts and Crime Stoppers.

He was also seconded to the Ministry of the Solicitor General for approximately seven months in 2001 as a business analyst representing the Ontario Police Technology Information Cooperative (OPTIC) in the Integrated Justice Program.

Inspector Williams graduated from Nipissing University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction. His studies concentrated on administrative studies and psychology.

Inspector Williams spends countless hours volunteering in the community with many of his off duty hours being spent as a representative on the Nipissing University Board of Governors and with the Nipissing University Alumni Association Board of Directors.

He has also served on the Children’s Aid Society board, EFAP North board and with the Chippewa Secondary School Advisory Committee.

Inspector Williams is married to Pat, and they have two children, Evan and Laura.

Chair Ferguson states, “The Board is excited about Al taking on the position of Deputy Chief. Al has a tremendous work ethic and he is well respected within the Police Service and the community. He has worked in the past with incoming Chief Paul Cook and the Board is confident they will be a dynamic team.”

Incoming Chief Cook echoes Mr. Ferguson’s comments saying, “Al is a loyal and dedicated officer who brings a wealth of police experience and leadership qualities to the table. I look forward to our continued strong working relationship.”
