Police are searching for an arsonist after a pair of York St. fires this morning.

They were called to a York Street house at 3 a.m. after someone set a fire in recycling bins in front of the home. The fire was extinguished by the police and the property owner.

No one was seen in the area by officers.

Half an hour later, police were called again regarding a second fire in the 400 block of York Street. Police arrived and saw that a garbage can and recycle bin was on fire and had spread to the house. Police contained the fire by using extinguishers from their vehicles until the arrival of the North Bay Fire and Emergency Services to extinguish the blaze.

Police entered the home and a resident was safely removed.

Police say this is an active criminal investigation and they are seeking anyone with relevant information to contact the North Bay Police Service at 705-497-5555.
