'Some of our stores were hit this year, again it is not going to stop it but if it reduces it then it is time and money well spent'

The North Bay City Police have outlined a number of crime prevention goals for 2019.  One of those goals is starting up a robbery prevention program for businesses here in the city of North Bay.

Special Constable John Schultz is the North Bay Police Community Safety Coordinator. He says the police will provide business inspections to give them ideas on how to prevent crime and make that business less of a target.

“It does not mean you are not going to be a target of crime, but how the police can work with the community in trying to make your home and your businesses a safer place,” explained Schultz.

Schultz says he stole the idea of a robbery prevention program from other communities in the province.

“This is a program that has been up and running in multiple cities in southern Ontario and I have met with some of them and we are going to borrow their program and put it into effect here,” said Schultz.

“Some of our stores were hit this year, again it is not going to stop it, but if it reduces it then it is time and money well spent.”

Schultz says they are still putting together some props that will be provided to the businesses by police before the robbery prevention program gets rolling.
