Police investigate major case of elder abuse

The investigation determined that numerous legal documents had been forged and a substantial amount of money stolen from the victim.

On July 12, 2017 members from the East Algoma Detachment of the OPP began investigating a complaint related to deplorable living conditions of an elderly man in Elliot Lake. 

The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit, Scenes of Crime Officer, and uniform members under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews, of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch conducted the investigation. The investigation determined that numerous legal documents had been forged and a substantial amount of money stolen from the victim.

On June 13, 2018, 68-year-old Gisele Davis from Elliot Lake, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Fail to Provide Necessaries of Life,
  • Criminal Breach of Trust, 
  • Theft Over $5,000, 
  • Theft Under $5,000 (14 counts), 
  • Fraud Under $5,000 (14 counts), 
  • Make Forged Document (14 counts),
  • Use, Deals, Acts on Forged Document (14 counts), 

Davis is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 3.
