The North Bay Police Association is putting funds raised from a recent hockey tournament to good use.

The association raised $3000 at a local tournament they ran with the proceeds going to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

"We’d like to also send out many thanks to the volunteers we had to help run the tournament, from serving to reffing, as well as sponsors," the North Bay Police Association stated via social media.

"Thank you to the community for contributing to a worthwhile cause," the association continued.

Gil Pharand, executive director of the Nipissing Serenity Hospice, appreciates the support as funds like these help their day-to-day operations.

"This type of support is so important to us as we strive to provide exceptional palliative care and support the end-of-life journey with compassion, comfort and dignity for all," said Pharand.

"We are only partially funded by the Ontario government and we have to raise close to $800,000 a year to operate. We are so grateful."
