Police arrest young offender after Ski Club Road standoff

Some residents reported hearing a gunshot

North Bay Police have arrested a young offender after a standoff on Ski Club Road Thursday.

It started at 1:30 in the afternoon when officers responded to reports of an assault that took place at a house in the 700-block. The suspect was reported to be armed with a firearm.

Police restricted access to Ski Club Rd and asked residents to shelter in place.

Police confirmed around 3:15 p.m. that the situation has been resolved.

Some residents reported hearing a gunshot, and police today said an officer discharged a non-lethal Anti-Riot Weapon Enfield (ARWEN).

The situation was resolved and police arrested the youth who is currently charged with:

  • Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm
  • Assault
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Failure to comply with release order

Because the male is a young offender, police cannot release the name or any identifying information of the accused who is currently in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit was notified and has invoked its mandate to investigate and so the NBPS will not be able to provide any further information.

Officers were supported by the North Bay Police Service’s Emergency Response Team and a Crisis Negotiator.
