TEMISKAMING SHORES — An Englehart man has been fined $455 for illegal fishing and leaving a burning fire.

Stephane Denomme, 41, got a $300 fine for fishing without a licence, was prohibited from fishing for a year, and fined $155 more for not putting out his campfire.

Court heard that on May 7, of this year, Denomme was spotted by a Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officer fishing on the Blanche River in Hillardton Park an hour after being warned he needed a licence to fish.

After being charged for poaching, Denomme went home without extinguishing his campfire. Conservation officers put it out then went to Denomme’s home and charged him for leaving the fire.

Justice of the Peace Alex Spence heard the case in Haileybury Provincial Court on December 9, 2004.

The public is encouraged to help protect its natural resources by reporting violations to the local ministry office or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
